And the BLUE Crew arrive!

Local folks around Whistler are calling all the volunteers and staff wearing “blue” jackets the “Blue People” and these blue people are arriving by the bus load into Whistler village. My parents are among them volunteering for over a month of the Winter Games and the Paralympics Games. But looks can be deceiving, not all people wearing blue are volunteers, no some are ski school staff who lost there job during the Olympics so Vanoc gave them jobs for the Olympics. Some are staff and security, and a ton of them are volunteers.

My parents had there first volunteer shift yesterday where they had to take a early morning bus from Squamish all the way to Whistler. They are volunteering in the Athletes Village doing a number of different tasks. My dad is pumped to meet the athletes, and Susie is excited to see all the media and coaches. The vibe in the village right now is slow to nothing. They don’t think athletes will start arriving till the weekend, so I will keep you posted on who they see. The big news yesterday was the dinning tent for the athletes that seat 900, a huge McDonalds and the chief from the TV show “Chief At Home” is the lead cook. The food is yummy and plentifully!! So what do my parents get for volunteering?? Once cool outfit, free transportation and free opening ceremony dress rehearsal tickets. Incentives.. every three shifts my parents work they get a gift.. humm I hear Olympic pins…

My parents are lucky that they are retired so they can take a month off and volunteer, I look forward to hearing there many stories!

I did tell them however, when walking around the village in Whistler do not wear there BLUE jackets…. I want to keep them looking hip and cool!!
